When: I don't know when this is going to happen that depends on the response to this post I guess. But I am thinking once the ball gets rolling we'll probably do it once a month, maybe say the first Saturday of the month, and maybe start around noon and book a good few hours so that people can come late, leave early, or stay for the whole meet depending on what works best for the individual.
Where: I am thinking the main branch of the Cleveland Public Library in downtown as it's pretty central to the overall Cleveland area and spaces are freely available to reserve. Although I have not yet gone down there and asked to see one to make sure it'll work for our purposes.
What: Topics? Well besides just admin stuff since this will be the first meetup I don't know the sky is the limit I guess. I have a few ideas but am not a great public speaker so if left to just me to organize it'll probably be a real quick "welcome to the club" and then we just set up computers and have some fun. Plus I know I have some stuff I'd like to sell and/or give away.
Who: That's the big question, what turnout will there be? How big of a room should I even be looking for? What gear will they bring and what space (and power) requirements are there for that? The answer to this will have to come from you and other interested forum members so PLEASE RESPOND to this post and let's see if we can get this thing off the ground and have some fun!
Welcome to the C4 Forums!
As you have probably already noticed registering an account on the forum is super simple, perhaps a little *too* simple, so simple in fact that one concern is that some unscrupulous spammer might try to inundate not only this forum but also our Discord channel with ads for ketamine or something (Hey I see it on Usenet all the time).
So, to that end, in order to get an invite link to the Discord channel (and possibly in the future other club resources) the link is hidden in a "Members Only" forum. In order to access *that* forum your forum account will need to be promoted from "Newbie" to "Member". The easiest way to do that is to show up at our next get-together, meet other like-minded individuals, play around with old computers, have a good time!
But most importantly pick up a card on which you will find a randomly generated code, then come back here and post in this (Introductions) forum and in your post include that code. Just a simple post like this will work:
"Hi, I'm Bob, I was at the last meeting, had a lot of fun! Please make me a member, here is my code: ABCDEFG"
If you can't make it to a get-together or you lost the code or something then just post here anyway and just let us know you're a human (or a reasonably intelligent dog) but of the utmost importance definitely not a spam bot and you're likely to get Member access just simply by asking, after all if it turns out you actually are a spam bot we can always bump you back down to Newbie
It may be a good idea to add more sub-areas later on but for now I'm going to just keep it simple.
This area will be to post items you want to sell, are looking to buy, or will be giving away.
It's probably best to keep the actual exchanging to the meetups but I'll leave that up to you to decide.
This area will be used for discussion on the meetings. For each meeting I will start a new topic and we can talk about the upcoming meeting by replying to that topic. This can be used to discuss what we might do such as topics to talk about, who is going to bring what to show off or maybe sell, etc...
